What is a Community Member?
Do you have an idea for a project or process that doesn't fit within conventional research domains? A radical idea that crosses disciplinary boundaries? Or do you simply have a passionate need to explore in unconventional ways? Whether you have an "out-there" idea—or ideas—already ruminating in your mind, or are simply the type that has a passionate need to explore strange notions and learn in unconventional ways, we want to hear from you.
The Building 21 community member program supports students who show enthusiasm and initiative in developing daring ideas into scholarly projects. By being a community member, students receive the following:
A Unique 3rd Space
Access to Building 21 to work on their ideas
Community
Being part of an interdisciplinary community of scholars who are pursuing independent projects in parallel
Idea Development through Scholar Events
Regularly held scholar events that facilitate accountability, feedback, sharing perspectives, collective inspiration, and momentum building

Who
Open to all McGill students of all levels (undergraduate, master's, PhD, post-doc) and to students who have graduated from McGill in the past 12 months.
This is not for credit.
The Program
Function
Pursue one’s personal, original, creative ideas by participating in an active scholar community culture
Requirements
3-5 hours of physical presence at Building 21 per week across
- Doing research in the space
- Attend at least one Building 21 organised event per week
In-person presence at B21 leads to essential interdisciplinary connections and conversations.
Responsibility
To cultivate a community of scholars aligned with the BLUE ethos, we ask you to:
- Talk to other scholars about your project
- Develop your project in the space
- Present your project with the community
- Share ideas and feedback with a group of interdisciplinary scholars

Interested students should book a project meeting with Anita Parmar to discuss their proposed ideas
